CIFI NEWS OCTOBER 2021
Edition #2
Message from César Cañedo-Argüelles

This year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary, 20 years in which CIFI has gained maturity year by year and is a permanent player that continues to support the construction of a better Latin America and the Caribbean, overcoming the challenges of our region.

The experience and knowledge we have acquired confirms our long-term commitment. Our goal is to be a loyal partner, committed and open to innovative solutions to move forward the infrastructures of our countries. All of this without overlooking the shadow effects that the COVIDpandemic has left since its outbreak in March 2020.  These effects continue to have a negative impact on the countries where foreign direct investment fell by US$56,000 MM compared to 2019,reaching the lowest value in the last decade.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL for its acronym in spanish) highlights a 5.2% growth in 2021, but even so, we will not reach the GDP level of 2019.

Nevertheless, at CIFI we will continue to support investment in infrastructure projects that improve the well-being of the population. Thus, in the first half of this year, we signed financing contracts for distributed energy projects in Mexico, photovoltaic parks in Chile and renewable energy projects in the Dominican Republic.

We see a region with opportunities. We will continue to invest in projects that fight climate change, support the digital era by investing in telecommunications, sectors such as electric mobility and waste management.

"At CIFI we work and will continue to work on projects that will directly impact the recovery of economies and benefit thousands of people."

Latest Funded Projects

With the world still coping with the pandemic, we have achieved important closings for our portfolio and for the region's growth.

Banverde, México

Banverde is the first fund dedicated to distributed solar generation in Mexico for commercial and industrial clients. Hand in hand with CIFI, it closed a US$57M syndicated loan to finance the acquisition of small-scale solar projects in the country.

As a result of this financing, Banverde projected the installation of 80 MW of distributed solar  energy systems throughout Mexico, resulting in an approximate reduction of 65,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Los Guzmancito, República Dominicana

This financing was equivalent to US$144.7 million through a 10-year US$90 million facility in dollars and a 17-year facility in Dominican pesos for up to DOP $3,373 million in favor of the Los Guzmancito wind project, owned by the company Poseidón Energía Renovable, S.A., located in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The reduction of CO2 emissions avoided during 2020 byPhase I was 122,262.50, benefiting more than 121,750 people with clean energy. The projected capacity is 87MW.

Met School, Panamá

CIFI participated as an investor in a bond issue by Panamá Norte School S.A., which leases all of its facilities to the Metropolitan School of Panama (Met) under a long-term lease.

A 7-year corporate bond totaling US$25.80 MM was structured. These bonds will allow refinancing the Series A and B generated in 2019, where CIFI participated in a structured loan.

Andes Solar, Chile

Cifi structured a loan for a total amount of US$17.7M for Energías Renovables Holding S.A., owner of Peñaflor solar farm, Chépica solar farm, Peñablanca solar farm, La Ligua solar farm, and Los Boldos solar farm.

For CIFI, this financing represents the fourth portfolio of PMG/PMGDs it has successfully supported, positioning itself as one of the leading institutions in the financing of this type of  projects in Chile.

Sustainable Infrastructure Debt Fund CIFI (SIDF)

CIFI is in the process of raising a private debt fund focused on sustainable projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This is a US$300 MM private debt fund that will participate in transactions together with CIFI.  This fund meets all the criteria that define Sustainable Infrastructure, ESG risk management, responsible investment aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. The fund will be the main focus of CIFI's presentation at the LATINEX Investor FORUM 2021, the week of September 20th.

Second issue of Colombia Bonds

We placed a successful ordinary bond issue in the Colombian market on the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia S.A. for 84,000 million Colombian pesos. This placement is part of the CIFI program guaranteed by COP 400,000 MM in Colombian pesos last year.

The proceeds from the bond placement will be used by the issuer to grow its loan portfolio to finance infrastructure projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Best practices

Environmental, Social and Governance Training 2021
CIFI's ESG Department, as part of its annual training plan, presented to all employees the latest update to the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) approved by the Board of  Directors in March 2021. This update includes a series of new and updated policies and procedures in accordance with the environmental and social standards to which CIFI adheres.

The new version of CIFI's ESMS has new tools to identify and manage climate risk in funded projects, as well as an in-depth assessment of potential Human Rights impacts or risks. In addition, the results of the latest Annual Sustainability Report 2020 were presented, in line with our transparency and reporting plan.

During the training, the positive impact metrics achieved in different projects were shared, such as environmental indicators (carbon footprint, GHG Avoided Emissions, clean energy generation, etc.) and social indicators (people benefited with clean energy, installation of communication towers, job creation, etc.).

Highlighting how our work contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

This type of training seeks to keep all employees in each of the company's areas up to date with all aspects of the business, understanding the relevance of the application of ESG analysis in each of the projects.
